ThyssenKrupp Elevator has commissioned the Stuttgart-based event agency what when why to organise the topping-out ceremony for a prestigious project

Stuttgart/Rottweil. With a turnover of €6.4 billion, customers in 150 countries and over 50,000 skilled employees, ThyssenKrupp Elevator is one of the world’s leading lift companies. To defend and further strengthen this position, a project of outstanding significance was launched: the lift test tower in Rottweil.

Topping-out ceremony draws a large crowd
The lift test tower in Rottweil, ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s impressive flagship project, featuring Germany’s highest public viewing platform at 232 metres and a finished total height of 246 metres, held its topping-out ceremony. With 250 guests, extensive media coverage and increasingly fine weather, the topping-out ceremony organised by ThyssenKrupp Elevator in collaboration with the construction firm Ed. Züblin was a resounding success. This important milestone in the completion of this significant structure was celebrated in style.
Wind, weather, what when why
The concept put forward by what when why had already won over the management at ThyssenKrupp Elevators, leading to the organisation of the topping-out ceremony being entrusted to the Stuttgart-based event agency. “We had to take into account the specific challenges of an open-air event, as well as the overall staging, incorporating key speakers and the other elements of the programme. But the weather posed the greatest challenge,” said Stefania Candido, project manager at what when why.

The weather defied all forecasts and kept everyone on tenterhooks right up until the start of the event, with the organisers constantly switching between plans for good weather and bad. However, thanks to thorough preparation and good relations with the weather gods, the topping-out ceremony ultimately went ahead without a single drop of rain, leaving both guests and organisers delighted.
“We felt we got on very well with the Stuttgart-based event agency right from the start. We enjoyed working with them and they always made us feel confident,” said the project team from ThyssenKrupp Elevator (CENE).
